High on Life 2 ROG Xbox Ally X – Performance Review

High on Life 2 delivers a stable handheld experience on the ROG Xbox Ally X, offering a solid balance between visual quality and performance with the right configuration. While these settings may not represent the absolute maximum optimization possible, they provide smooth gameplay without heavily compromising the visual presentation.

Using the configuration outlined below, the game remains fully playable across most scenarios. Performance is generally consistent throughout standard gameplay, with only a few heavier areas pushing the hardware harder.

The most demanding section encountered so far is the open world hub. This area contains the highest density of NPCs, environmental assets, and background activity, making it the primary stress test for the system. Frame rates here can dip to around 28 FPS on the balanced configuration. Adjusting AMD FSR from Balance to Performance or increasing wattage to 35W turbo when plugged in helps stabilize performance above 30 FPS in these heavier zones.

Outside of the hub, performance is far more consistent. General exploration and mission areas run in the mid-30s FPS range and above, maintaining smooth playability across extended sessions. After several hours of gameplay testing, performance holds steady in most environments, with dips largely confined to the central hub and not persisting for long durations.
